There Are No Words…

My aunt gave my sister some money for her high school graduation and my sister held off on sending a thank you note in order to send all of the thank yous at the same time.

A couple of weeks ago, she sat down, wrote out all the thank you notes, double checked addresses and put stamps on the envelopes.

A few days later, we got a phone call from my aunt… Apparently, my sister sent her a blank envelope.

*facepalm*

My aunt has never understood what ADHD is or how distracted an ADD person can be. Well… she does now!

She’s the kind of person who takes these things very seriously and doesn’t find them funny, but to try and alleviate some of the tension, we started joking around about why it was blank. The two best lines we came up with were:

“Your gift has left me speechless…”

“There are no words to describe how thankful I am for your thoughtful gift. So here: no words….” ;)

And then my aunt laughed. :D

And then she went on to tell us about two other thank you notes she’s received previously that this one may have just beat out for #1:

The first story is about a thank you note that came from a young couple who had recently gotten married. My aunt and the rest of her office got together and bought the couple some really nice camping gear they wanted.

The thank you note started off “Dear person1, person2, person3, person4, etc…” listing each person in turn, with my aunt’s name in place of person1. The note went on to thank them all for the generous gift and then after they signed their names, a PS was added: “please pass this on to the person whose name comes after yours.”

Uh…. say, what!?

But seriously, folks.

And the second thank you note story she had came from a couple who had gotten married a year before they sent the thank you notes. The note came in the form of a postcard that had a picture of the smiling couple from their wedding and in lieu of a message, there was a generic checklist with each item on the list checked off:

  • dated
  • found a home
  • got married
  • went on honeymoon
  • said thank you

You call THAT a real thank you!?

*facepalm* yetagain

People just never cease to amaze me. :)
