So… I Got A Cut and Fainted
True story.
My body doesn’t react well to trauma, and I’ve known that for ages, but while I’ve gotten really dizzy and seen “snow” for several minutes, I’ve never actually fainted.
Well, at least, until Friday night.
We had family friends over for dinner, I was cutting an avocado and the knife slipped. As soon as I saw/felt it break skin, I ran into the kitchen where my mom was getting the main dish for dinner and I stuck my hand under the running water.
My mom asked me what was wrong, I said something like, “I just cut myself”, she said something like, “let me see”, my response was “you don’t want to see”, to which she responded something about how I was wasting buckets of water, and I responded “hold on, I’m getting dizzy… I need a minute”, and the next thing I knew, I was waking up on the kitchen floor with people around me and a wet towel being dabbed on my face and neck.
I don’t remember what happened between “…I need a minute” and waking up, but I was told it was only about a minute or so, my mom shrieked, I didn’t make any noise hitting the floor, I landed with my hand raised in the air and kept it there even as I passed out, my eyes were open but I was unresponsive, I started to shake and then my eyes closed.
I do remember that as I woke up, I had this whole dream storyline in my head as though I had been asleep all night, and my first question was, “how did I end up on the floor?”
I pulled myself up slowly, sat down on the couch, someone brought me water, covered me with a blanket, and bandaged my finger.
It still kills, and doing basic things like brushing my teeth, washing my hair, holding things, typing, and anything that accidentally hits my finger, really hurts.
Oh, and I was also wearing a hair clip that was apparently between my head and the floor when I fell, and I have a huge bruise there now. Still hurts.
It wasn’t bad enough to need a hospital visit, and I’m lucky that one of our dinner guests has worked in the medical field and knew exactly how to handle the situation.
